TOMORROWLAND REVIEW

Bound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.

Starring: George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Lauri, and Raffey Cassidy

Directed by: Brad Bird

Written by: Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird, Jeff Jensen

"Tomorrowland" is definitely a movie for Disney fans, particularly those who have been to the parks. Anyone who has visited the theme parks might remember an area of the park called Tomorrowland. Innovation, utopia, and the future were important Walt Disney himself, and influenced many ideas in this area of the parks. Those ideas also are what the Tomorrowland in the movie is all about.

The movie opens with Frank Walker (George Clooney) recording a video with Casey Newton (Britt Robertson) giving him plenty of off camera remarks. Basically, the two end up telling their own personal stories of how they discover Tomorrowland, and came to be friends. Frank's adventure started, as a young boy, when he built a rocket pack, and took it to the 1964 World's Fair. Frank is an inventor at heart, and ends up playing a key role in the development of Tomorrowland before leaving. Casey is more of the curious teen who is extremely motivated to get what she wants. Her adventure starts in the present day, and ends up playing an important role in trying to save Tomorrowland.

The real fun in the movie starts when Frank and Casey meet each other for the first time. Frank wants nothing to do with her, but she's motivated to find out what he knows about Tomorrowland. In one of the better scenes, some robots at Franks home attack the two of them. As mentioned, Frank's an inventor, and his house has plenty of inventive ways of getting rid of the robots. With the help of Athena (Raffey Cassidy), the young girl who introduced both of them to Tomorrowland, Frank and Casey make it back to Tomorrowland to try to save it. Saving Tomorrowland isn't an easy task, and it's made even harder with Nix (Hugh Lauri) trying to stop them.

It’s a good story, particularly the way they put it together. While much of the movie is in the present day, they add in key parts of Frank as a young boy to give important back-story. They also do a terrific job of creating a Tomorrowland that not only the characters want saved, but so should the audience. As expected, Clooney gives a good performance. Lauri proves to be a good choice as a bad guy, who isn't necessarily truly evil. The surprise performance goes to Robertson, who is a lot more convincing in this role than her role in 'Under the Dome.'

While "Tomorrowland" might not be an instant classic, it's a movie that Walt Disney probably would have been proud of. They do good job of displaying his vision of a Tomorrowland full of innovention, and as close to an utopian life as possible. They put together a good story, create interesting characters, and get quality acting. If anything, it's a movie that Disney fans like myself can relate to. Being familiar with the theme parks, they had me with the early on with references to rides like 'The Carrousel of Progress,' 'Space Mountain,' and the very Disney like pins. With that said, I give this movie 3 stars!

The TRAINWRECK Comedy Tour

UNIVERSAL PICTURES AND CROWDRISE LAUNCH
“THE TRAINWRECK COMEDY TOUR,” FEATURING BRILLIANT TALENT FROM THE NEW COMEDY STARRING AND WRITTEN BY AMY SCHUMER AND DIRECTED BY JUDD APATOW

All Proceeds from Tour Featuring One of the Greatest Lineups in Comedy History to Benefit Various Charities as Schumer, Apatow, Colin Quinn, Mike Birbiglia, Vanessa Bayer and Dave Attell Hit the Stage across the U.S. and Canada

Seven-City Tour Kicks Off at Boston’s The Wilbur on June 14

Universal Pictures and CrowdRise today announced the launch of the upcoming “The Trainwreck Comedy Tour,” presented by Live Nation, a tour of some of the greatest comics of this generation, which kicks off at Boston’s The Wilbur on June 14, and concludes in Los Angeles at The Wiltern on June 21.  All proceeds will benefit various nonprofits and charities across the United States and Canada that have been brought together by CrowdRise, the largest and fastest-growing online platform for charitable fundraising.  Tickets for the tour are on sale now.  Trainwreck will arrive in theaters on July 17.

Comprised of the phenomenal talent from Trainwreck, the new comedy starring and written by Amy Schumer (TV’s Inside Amy Schumer) and directed by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Schumer, Colin Quinn (HBO’s Girls, TV’s Saturday Night Live), Mike Birbiglia (Sleepwalk with Me, The Fault in Our Stars), Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live, TV’s Portlandia) and Dave Attell (TV’s Insomniac with Dave Attell, Arrested Development)—and Apatow, “The Trainwreck Comedy Tour” will crisscross the U.S. and Toronto on a fast seven-cities-in-eight-nights sprint from June 14 - 21.

Schumer has turned Inside Amy Schumer into a legitimate cultural phenomenon.  The Emmy-nominated and 2015 Peabody Award-winning program was lauded by the body’s jurors with praise including “Schumer’s wholesome, disarming Brady Bunch looks belie and enhance a comic intelligence that’s smart, distinctively female and amiably profane, whether she’s applying it to sketch comedy, stand-up, or person-on-the-street interviews.”

Schumer will be joined on the tour by legendary comic Quinn, who redefined SNL’s “Weekend Update,” has performed his one-man shows on Broadway and around the country, and whose book “The Coloring Book” is being released on June 9; as well as writer/director/comic—and beloved This American Life contributor—Birbiglia; Bayer, whom HitFix praises is part of SNL’s current “unstoppable trio” alongside Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant; and Attell, a no-holds-barred mainstay of the stand-up circuit and host of Comedy Central’s Comedy Underground with Dave Attell.  They are joined by the Emmy, BAFTA and AFI award-winner Apatow, one of the most sought-after minds in the comedy business and the director whom The Washington Post has crowned “the godfather of blockbuster comedies.”

Tour dates include: June 14 at Boston’s The Wilbur, benefitting Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program; June 15 at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, benefitting the National MS Society; June 17 at Toronto’s Massey Hall, benefitting the David Lynch Foundation; June 18 at Chicago’s Harris Theater, benefitting Youth Guidance and YCMA Chicago’s Urban Warriors; June 19 at San Francisco’s The Nourse, benefitting 826 National and 826 Valencia; June 20 at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, supporting Hilarity for Charity benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association; and June 21 at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, benefitting the Rape Treatment Center’s Stuart House serving child victims.  For additional information, tickets and links to the nonprofit organizations, visit www.crowdrise.com/Trainwreck and www.trainwreckmovie.com/tour.

“I am so excited about ‘The Trainwreck Comedy Tour,’ said Apatow.  “I only made this film as an excuse to do the tour one day.  And now that day has come!”

Said Schumer: “I am so grateful that Judd made this movie as a way to trick us into doing this tour!  The shows will be great fun.  Can’t wait!”

About Trainwreck

No contemporary filmmaker has chronicled the messy human experience with the eye and ear of a comedic cultural anthropologist like Judd Apatow.  Hits as varied as those he’s directed, like Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and those he’s produced, like Superbad and Bridesmaids, are all unified by their honest, unflinching, comic look at how complicated it is to grow up in the modern world.

Apatow has also built a history of helping break distinctive new comedy voices into the mainstream, from Seth Rogen to Lena Dunham among many others.  Now, in his fifth feature film as a director, Apatow again brings a portrait of an unforgettable character, and a portrayal by a breakout new comedy star, together in Trainwreck, written by and starring Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer) as a woman who lives her life without apologies, even when maybe she should apologize.

Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic.  Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut.  When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.

The comedy, from a script written by Schumer, co-stars Brie Larson, John Cena, Tilda Swinton and LeBron James.  Apatow produces Trainwreck through his Apatow Productions alongside Barry Mendel (Bridesmaids, This Is 40).  www.trainwreckmovie.com

Disney's Zootopia Voice Cast Revealed

VOICE CAST REVEALED

Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman Head to “Zootopia”

Walt Disney Animation Studios welcomes Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman to “Zootopia,” Disney’s 2016 animated feature set in a modern mammal metropolis. Goodwin (ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” “Something Borrowed,” “Walk the Line”) will lend her voice to an optimistic bunny named Judy Hopps who’s new to Zootopia’s police department. Jason Bateman (“Horrible Bosses 2,” “This is Where I Leave You”) voices the scamming fox, Nick Wilde, who Judy reluctantly teams up with to crack her first case.

“We knew that ‘Zootopia’ would only succeed if we found the perfect actors to play our main characters,” said director Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”). “This rabbit- and fox-duo are in practically every scene in the film together. After meeting Ginnifer, we knew she embodied Hopps, the ultimate pure-of-heart, idealist bunny. You fall in love with her character instantly. And for Nick Wilde, our cynical con-artist fox, we only ever had one actor in mind, the incomparable Jason Bateman. Jason has a way of saying the most hilarious sarcastic things while always staying completely charming. We feel so fortunate to be working with both of them.”

The film opens nationwide March 4, 2016.

ABOUT THE MOVIE
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure is directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”).

HOT PURSUIT REVIEW

An uptight and by-the-book cop tries to protect the outgoing widow of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

Starring: Sofía Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, and Jodi Lyn Brockton

Directed by: Anne Fletcher

Written by: David Feeney, John Quaintance

There are many elements that make a movie worth watching, but sometimes it can be as simple as pairing the right actors together. Sometimes those actors can be very similar, and sometimes very different. At first glance, pairing Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon together almost seems ridiculous. However, it's the ridiculousness that they create that makes this odd couple work in "Hot Pursuit."

Reese plays Cooper, a police officer that because of an unfortunate incident in the field, has basically been in relegated to the evidence room. She's likes to play things by the books, and is awkward around people. Sofia plays Daniella Riva, the widow of a drug boss. She's pushy, not afraid to tell people what she thinks, and likes getting things done her way. These two very different people come together when Cooper is asked to help bring Daniella out of witness protect to testify in court.

Things go wrong from the beginning. Not long meeting, they are shot at by crooked cops and hit men, and forced on the run. The two quickly clash in the desperate position they are put in. Daniella just wants to escape, but Cooper is set on getting her to court. This struggle goes on throughout their time together creating many great comedic moments.

One of those moments is a great chase scene on a bus. Not only do they go on a wild ride, but also the audience is treated to a hilarious moment when Cooper surprisingly gets in an argument with Daniella in Spanish. Yes, it was new seeing little old Reese break out the Spanish! There’s a funny running joke throughout the movie involving news reports on the status of the pair. Each time they offend them by making a certain characteristic about them worse and worse.

There’s also a decent fight scene between the two. It’s only decent because it should have lasted a little longer. Not lost in all of the laugher is a surprisingly well thought out plot. It seems pretty standard at first, even the audience may have some guesses at what's coming. However, there's one well-hidden plot twist that leads to an exciting ending.

Reese and Sofia put on excellent performances in "Hot Pursuit." It’s another example of pairing what seem to be very different people, and creating the perfect roles for them to work off one another. The audience will be laughing from start to finish, and enjoy watching their misadventure. While the story isn’t the most important thing in a comedy like this, there's a good twist that tops everything off. With that, I give this movie 3.5 stars!

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON REVIEW

When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and it's up to the Avengers to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans.

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo

Directed by: Joss Whedon

Written by: Joss Whedon, and Stan Lee

How great is it to be living in the age of Marvel? Yes, Marvel has been around forever, but I'm talking about being able to see the comics really come to life. "Iron Man," "Captain America," "Thor," and "The Avengers" movies have all been a pleasure to watch. Since this series of movies has started, they have been some of the best movies to hit theaters, and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is certainly in that same club.

The movie starts off right in the middle of a battle, and quickly reminds the audience of what each superhero is cable of. This scene is just an appetizer for the rest of the action to come. There's an absolutely great fight between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) (much better than Mayweather-Pacquiao may I add). It's awesome how they aren't afraid to let the superheroes fight amongst themselves too!

As expected, it ends with the best action scene in somewhat the same way the first Avengers movie ends. Instead of aliens, the Avengers are forced to fight an army of Ultron's robots. Again the audience gets to see what see what each Avenger does best. It might have gotten a little too dramatic when they all huddle in the church together to stop the robots, but it's still an awesome scene. Hopefully in the next Avengers movie, they can approach the ending a little different. While it’s exciting seeing them battle armies of aliens, and robots, lets see if they can come up with a different kind of epic battle.

Iron Man, and Captain America (Chris Evans) seem to get plenty of screen time, but it's also good to see some lesser characters like Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) get some of their own storylines. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) might have been the one Avenger whose time seemed a little shorter than the others. Also, it's nice to see that the Avengers got a few new team members. The audience knows what the Avengers can do so seeing new characters with new powers is a welcome sight.

Ultron turns out to be a pretty interesting villain. The most interesting part about him is how similar he is to Tony Stark. Tony can almost be a mad scientist at times, and Utron is almost like that multiplied by 100. He comes up with a good plan to destroy, or change the planet, especially the way he went about it. What eventually happens to Ultron could have been done in a little more of a creative way.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is well worth the wait, and another great Marvel movie. The action is awesome from the start to finish. Not only is it great to see the heroes in action, but also the comedic moments when not in the heat of battle really adds to the characters. They set the bar higher and higher with each Marvel film, so it will be interesting to see where they go next. With that, I give this movie 4.5 stars!

Over 300 fans dressed as their favorite Avengers visited Disneyland and met Captain America, Thor and Hawkeye before attending a special advance screening of MARVEL'S AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON...

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Chris Evans as Captain America. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, p.g.a., Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015.
